Once I arrived back at my hotel, I had to check my bags into my new room. This time, the elevators were all broken, so we had to take the stairs – no big deal, except for the fact that my room was around 60 floors up, so I had to follow the reception worker up 60 flights of stairs which took quite a while to get to my room. It’s worth noting here that this was in the 85 Sky Tower, which is one of the more iconic buildings in Kaohsiung. It was quite entertaining how old it looked on the inside despite its outer appearance.
I had a quick walk around after putting my bags down to go to a local Uniqlo and purchase some new clothes (which was way cheaper than in Australia). There was some construction going on outside my hotel, and I was quite shocked to see many workers working 10 floors high off the side of a building with no harnesses or safety rails. After my short walk I spent the remainder of this morning having a nap in my hotel room.
Pier 2
In the afternoon, I went to the Pier 2 area to get some interesting photos looking back at the city as well as at the artwork in the area including a sculpture made from shipping containers, and a rotating bridge called the Great Harbour Bridge. I found this area to be quite picturesque with sea and city views.
Riding around Love River
Once it started to get dark, I rented a bike and rode it around the nearby river called Love River. It would quite a pretty area where I sadly didn’t take too many photos. It was a very enjoyable experience seeing the pretty lights and riding around the docks and markets that were beside the river. After the bike ride, I purchased some red bean desert which was very refreshing after riding around for the last hour. I then headed back to my hotel room to go to sleep for the night feeling extremely tired.
