Today we spent most of the day walking around Amsterdam admiring the unique Dutch architecture. In the morning for breakfast I had Dutch pancakes, which was quite delicious and filling. I learnt that the reason the houses have rather thin facades is an old tax-evasion technique as taxes were once calculated based on the size of the front of the houses. On the inside the houses tend to be quite large despite the small outer appearance. The way the unique, tall, and narrow Dutch houses reflect on the canals creates such a picturesque unique scene, reminding me of the way a Christmas wonderland is depicted in Australian media.
