This morning I went to a local gym for a few hours to catch up on my workout routines.

Shakespeare and Company Bookstore

After finishing up at the gym, I went and met up with my friends at the famous Shakespeare and Company bookstore. We had to line up for a little while before being let in, but once inside it was quite a cool-looking bookstore. We were not allowed to take photos inside sadly. I noted that it was mostly a fictional books/literature store with very little to suit my nonfiction reading tastes, but I was able to find two books that interest me; one related to the pursuit of microchip production as a means to control the world, and another related to time management.

It was cool because I was able to get my books stamped at the store to prove they were purchased there, a great way to add to my growing book collection. They also gave me a bookmark that had a picture of the famous bookstore with each book that I purchased.

After finishing up browsing the store, we went to the café next door where I had a cappuccino and a cinnamon roll… far out I miss Melbourne coffee!

Conveniently, the bookstore was located right near Notre Dame, so I was also able to take some photos of the front and see the construction work that was underway to repair the unfortunate damages caused by the fire in 2019.

Around lunchtime to late afternoon, I continued reading Anne Franks’s diary finishing off this book, which had a rather sad ending. After completing this book, I look forward to visiting the museum again in the future.

A Disastrous Parisian Restaurant Experience

Later in the day, we decided to go to a restaurant that one of my friends found online to try some famous French cuisine such as escargot (snails) and cuisses de grenouille (frog legs). Right from the beginning the experience was strange. Waiting to be let in the waiter did not want to talk to us in English, talking to other people trying to get in both French and Italian, and giving everyone else complementary mulled wine, neglecting us.

When we were finally let in, our meals took a long time to come, the food was quite mediocre, and the side dish of escargot and our drinks never arrived. Rather than mentioning it to the wait staff, we decided not to bother with them and just finish and pay for the food which we did receive before leaving to try again at another restaurant another day.
