The reason I had flights booked to Frankfurt was because when I was still in Melbourne arranging parts of this trip, I observed the flights were getting more and more expensive. I wanted to do a bit more traveling after my friends left but did not know where. So, after a bit of playing around, I ended up finding a set of flights home that would allow me a few days in Frankfurt, and a few days in Hong Kong that was not overly expensive, despite not knowing anything about Frankfurt. When I arrived at Frankfurt airport, I got my bags and went on the train to the hotel I had booked the night before.
I was quite surprised to find how dirty it was in the area near the train station where my hotel was located. There was lots of homelessness and all the wacky things that come with it in the area. I was even followed on two separate occasions by shady-looking people. My hotel was also not so flashy with black mold on the wall and a musty smell. It was not a great first impression of Frankfurt, however after some research online, and talking with my hotel receptionist and another traveler that I met at the laundromat I learned that it was only really this area around the train station that was like this. So, I decided to move to a different area, this time opting for a significantly more expensive hotel. The new hotel room was much nicer, but it was late by the time I moved, so I would have to wait until the next day to find out if it was worth it. The receptionist asked why I was checking in so late, and all I had to tell her was it was my first time here and my other hotel was near the train station… she got the message.
