ChatGPT recommended a day trip to the Taunus mountains which was only a 30-minute drive outside Frankfurt. It recommended I start by going to a town called Königstein, which had a castle on a hill overlooking it. I followed the advice and visited this castle. It was very quiet, with not many other visitors. For most of my time walking around I was the only one there. It was quite spooky inside as it was not lit up, and I had to use the flashlight on my phone to see inside. I climbed the tower at the top, but there was a 2-inch pool of water when I reached the top so I couldn’t look around too much, only from the angle of the doorway. I was still able to take in some good views of the town, and I did find the castle to be interesting enough, although I did not dare to enter many of the areas in the dungeons under the castle as it was pitch dark and something of a labyrinth inside which made it feel quite eerie to me considering I was the only one there.
Next, I went to the highest point of the Taunus mountains, Feldberg. The scenery on the way up was similar to the Black Forest. There was more snow this time on the sides of the road. When I reached the top, it was extremely windy and cold. There was enough snow around that a family up there had even built a snowman. I could see a bit of a view, but it was very cloudy. It was still nice to walk around up there though.
After finishing my drive through the mountains, I went to charge the Tesla to prepare it for return to the rental company. While I was charging it, I visited a nearby supermarket that was the same size as Ikea! After returning the Tesla to the rental company’s garage, I went to have a doner kebab for dinner before calling it a night.
