Bolttech Visit

Today in the morning we visited Blottech in a shopping and office building called Suntec Centre. The last time I visited Singapore, I visited Uniqlo at this shopping center to purchase a new shirt before returning to the airport for my connecting flight. This time we just went straight to the office area for our company visit at Bolttech. Bolttech is an insurance and protection distribution company. I found it interesting hearing about the microservices they create to integrate with their many partners to provide customers with insurance and protection options in different ways, such as when buying phones from certain providers. My question at this presentation focused on allowing customers to compare various options. I was curious as to how this could contribute to better efficiency in allocating resources to certain insurance.

After this company visit we spent some time walking around the nearby malls. There was a Tesla showroom in this mall that happened to have a Tesla CyberTruck which was interesting as I had never seen one in person before. I got a coffee here from a store called ‘Australia Coffee Club’, which seemed to be the same as the Coffee Club in Australia. As expected, the coffee was average.

Starting our Presentation

We returned to the hotel around lunchtime for a few hours of free time. We decided to spend some of this time starting our presentation, so my team sat in the hotel bar and started combining our notes to start delegating out parts of the presentation. After this, I went and sat by the hotel pool and spent some time working on my blog. For lunch, I went and bought a McSpicy from a nearby McDonalds which was a recommendation from the friend I met up with in Singapore prior to starting the tour.

Networking event

In the afternoon we had a networking event in a tower located in the Singapore financial district. The event had many speakers and panelists from HR departments from various companies with a presence in Singapore. There was an introductory speech that discussed the challenges of having a decreasing local workforce, which was related to the speaker’s children who were also studying in Australia. I asked a question about some of the government policies discussed in the presentation which I thought may relate to Singapore’s competitive advantage on the global stage.

After the presentation, there were refreshments including a buffet meal with champagne. While eating we had a chance to have a chat with one of the presenters discussing the topic of interviewing and advanced hiring processes through the use of machine learning.
