Central Market

Today in the morning I decided to go visit the Central Market. At the market, I purchased some souvenirs and walked around looking at the different stalls. At home, I have become quite a big fan of coconut water, so at the market I purchased myself a coconut to drink and then eat which was very refreshing. After walking around the market for some time, I went to visit the nearby Chinatown market to see if I could try to use my Chinese abilities to purchase some original authentic clothing items. However, it wasn’t very lively at this time, and I was told it gets busier at night. Instead, I decided to return to my hotel for a while.

Back at the hotel, I discovered there was a coworking space on one of the higher floors which had a great view of the outside of Kuala Lumpur towards the mountains. This gave me a good opportunity and environment to spend some time catching up on my blog while taking in the view. After this, I swam in my hotel pool for a while taking in the view from the other side of the hotel which looks towards the Petronas Towers. I later went to a nearby bookstore to purchase some Chinese language books, and since I recognised, I still needed to study the language much more.

Petaling Street

At night I decided I would go visit the famous Petaling Street again as it is supposed to be livelier at night. It was a public holiday in the state which surrounds Kuala Lumpur, called Selangor, so the traffic was bad meaning it took a long time to get back to the market. I walked around the market, seeing lots of original authentic goods being sold, hoping to find some Chinese Malaysian store owner I could try negotiating with in Mandarin. Sadly, it seems that despite being called ‘Chinatown’ most of the stores are seemingly run by Malayan ethnic people. I guess I will have to save that experience for Beijing in a few weeks.

After walking around, I decided to get some dinner. I had some pan-fried dumplings at a market stall outside and then had some delicious chicken rice inside one of the nearby restaurants. The amount of chicken rice consumed on this trip is starting to get slightly out of hand.
