Lotus Lake
This would be my last full day with the car as my plan was to make the rest of the journey back up to Taipei along the east coast using public transport and the high-speed rail. In the morning I drove from my hotel to Lotus Pond in Khaosiung to have a walk around the area looking at the various temples in the area, as well as the Dragon and Tiger pagodas, which sadly were under renovations, so there was some scaffolding surrounding them.
After walking around for a while, I opted to try out some indoor shrimp fishing at a nearby establishment. I had no idea what I was doing as I could not communicate with any of the workers. I was able to hire a rod and purchase some bait and fish for around 30 minutes. In that time I caught 2 shrimp + a third that got off after I lifted it out. Thankfully the staff were generous enough to give me a third shrimp as I didn’t have much luck. The staff then helped me to barbeque the shrimp which I then ate, delicious!
Once I finished, I went and ate some 7-Eleven lunch and headed back to my hotel to get some rest.
Ruifeng Night Market
At night I opted to eat some local food at the Ruifeng Night Market. Trying to park the Tesla at this night market was an absolute nightmare, with so many motorbike and pedestrians moving around unpredictably. I was fully expecting someone on a motorbike to sideswipe me at this point but it was difficult for me to do anything about it once I found myself in that situation so I just proceeded carefully and luckily made it out of there into a carpark without losing my bond.
The night market was packed as I huddled my way through to get some food. When I purchased some foods, I wasn’t really sure what I was eating (as again, everything is in Chinese) but it was many different kinds of barbequed meats. I was finally able to try the famous “stinky tofu” at this market which I didn’t find that stinky and thought tasted quite nice.
Cijin Night Life
After the night market I went and parked the Tesla for the night. I then went caught the MRT and local ferry across to go to the Cijin Sunset Beach bar. At the bar I sat on the beach for a while looking at the many ships that were sitting in the nearby sea. This site reminded me of the sea’s I looked at one time landing in Singapore, as there were so many ships because this port is the 15th busiest port in the world. It was getting a bit late, so I decided to head home for the night.
