Walking to the barber

Today we allowed ourselves some time to recover from the jetlag. This spare time allowed Trevor and I to get haircuts. In the morning, after breakfast, we walked to a barber shop. On the way to the barber, we navigated many streets filled with ancient Roman buildings. We walked past the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Navona, the Roman forum, and even caught a brief glimpse of the Colosseum. We were all quite surprised how much we saw on such a short walk. It wasn’t just the monuments that were impressive; there were so many impressive buildings with old architecture and cobblestone streets that any corner could be easily declared a tourist attraction if it existed anywhere else in the world.

All’Antico Vinaio for Lunch

After getting haircuts we had the supremo rolls that were so delicious with Italian ham, pesto sauce and other Italian ingredients.

Visiting The Vatican

After Lunch, we headed over to the Vatican to take some photos at St Peters Square, before entering the Vatican Museum to explore the artifacts, court yards, and the Sistine Chapel. We used a free audio guide to walk around the museum and learn about the different artifacts that were there. I found the tour quite interesting and was very surprised by the number of artifacts that were there, although it was a slight information overload. One part that stood out to me were the artifacts carved out of red porphyritic granite, a rare rock that came from a specific part of Egypt that is extremely hard to sculpt. The skills and tools to work with this type of granite were lost for hundreds of years at a point in history.

Sistine Chapel

At the end of our Vatican Museum tour, we headed into the Sistine Chapel. There were so many people in there. We stayed for around 20 minutes listening to an audio guided tour that explained all the different paintings. Sadly, taking photos in the Sistine Chapel is prohibited.

Dinner and Wine

After leaving the Sistine Chapel, we decided to try some local wine. After doing some brief research online we decided to purchase a bottle of Chianti Riserva which cost only 3 euros and surprisingly to our unacquired taste buds tasted quite nice. After having the wine, we went and had pasta for dinner at a nearby restaurant. I had carbonara which was good, but very salty.
