Today we had tickets booked to see the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. After breakfast, we walked around 20 minutes to the Colosseum arriving what we thought was slightly early. Upon arriving we went to a nearby café to have some coffee while we were waiting for our time to enter the Colosseum. After waiting, we headed down to the entrance only to realize that we had the wrong time for entry and were one hour late. This meant that unfortunately we could not go in the Colosseum at this time. We didn’t let it ruin our mood too much and decided to quickly take some photos before heading to the nearby Roman Forum.
Roman Forum
Walking around the Roman Forum, we listened to another self-guided audio tour that we downloaded. It was interesting walking around the ruins of such old buildings learning about the houses and temples that were once lived in by the likes of Julius Caesar. We walked around taking many photos, and even going up to a higher point of the forum to get some wider photos of the large area of ruins that is the Roman Forum. After walking around the Roman Forum all morning, we walked back towards our hotel to get some lunch. Our feet were all so sore from walking around all morning that we ended up resorting to just purchasing a McDonalds family box that we shamefully ate sitting on the floor of our hotel just trying to rest our feet for a bit.
Walking around the Tiber River
After getting quite a lot of rest and revitalizing with a lemon gelato, we decided to walk around the Tiber River for a bit. This is the river that is close to the Vatican, which we had crossed over previously. It was a good chance for us to relax some more after such a busy, tiring morning.Italian Pizza
After walking around the river for some time, we decided finally to go try some local pizza at a restaurant close to our hotel called Piccolo Buco. After waiting in line for around 30 minutes, we were finally let inside. I ordered a classic margarita. The pizzas had thin bases with a thick puffy crust. Overall, it was a very nice pizza, which certainly did not disappoint.
