Today was our last day in Rome before leaving on the train to go to Florence. The main goal of the morning was to get tickets that would allow us inside the Colosseum before our train was scheduled.

Going inside the Colosseum

After waking up kind of early, we walked to the Colosseum lining up before it opened at the start of the line. This meant we got the first set of tickets for the day and were able to go inside the Colosseum to look around. We followed another audio tour on our phones which explained the history of the historic site, and helped to picture the battles that took place in its hay day.

Going inside the Pantheon

We also got some tickets to go inside the Pantheon where we looked at its inner architecture and did another audio tour.

Spanish Steps and heading to Florence

After successfully checking off the Colosseum and Pantheon tours, we headed to get some photos at the Spanish steps to fill the spare time before getting on the train to Florence.

The train ride itself was interesting as we sped across the countryside. We were all quite surprised to see how many castle-like houses there were on top of the hills we went past. It almost felt like there was a castle on every hill.

Florentino steak

After arriving in Florence, we checked into our Airbnb which was a 2 story Florentino apartment with a cute terrace we could sit on and drink wine. For dinner, we decided to take on a recommendation from the host to go to a local restaurant for some Florentino steak. Deciding this would be an expensive meal, we ordered sides consisting of local prosciutto, pate, salami, bread, and soup, a 30-euro bottle of Chianti wine which we were asked to taste test before committing to, and the pillar of the meal; 1.5Kg’s of the most expensive Florentino steak on the menu. The steak was probably one of the best I have ever eaten, and so was the wine that we had with it.

By the end of the meal, we were all feeling very full and nervous as they added up the bill after seeing a nearby table spend around 600 euros on their meal. Ours ended up being around 200 euros (so around $110 per person) which considering the quality of food consumed I thought was reasonable.
